Jack Griffiths

Hey everyone! My name is Jack Griffiths, and I recently joined a new group project for the Lights on Stratford Festival in Stratford, Ontario, called “The Flow Within.” It’s been an exciting start, and I wanted to share my thoughts on how things have been shaping up so far after week 1.

When I first met the team, I was a little nervous about jumping into a project this big as I had never been involved in the creation of an art installation before, but we quickly started to get to know each other, which helped as it seems like we have a great group. We have a mix of personalities and skills, which I think will really benefit the project. Right from the start, we decided that having clear roles would be essential to our success, so we quickly started delegating tasks.

Our team is structured into four main roles: project manager (my role), marketing and communication, technical coding, and media creation. It’s already giving us some direction, and I was glad to see how everyone found roles that matched their skills and interests. As the project manager, it is up to me to keep us on track and make sure everyone knows what they’re doing, which should help avoid confusion. The marketing and communication team is already strategizing on how to get the word out about our project, while the technical coding team is diving into the requirements for the more complex parts of the project. And, of course, the media creation team has been at the forefront of creating our online presence.

So far, we’ve managed to set up our Instagram account and YouTube channel, which has been a fantastic step forward. Thanks to the media creation team, the accounts are live, and we’ve even begun putting together some initial content. It’s great to see our project start to come to life on social media. Meanwhile, the marketing team worked hard to develop the shell for our website. It’s just the beginning, but already having that structure in place feels like a good start.

The technical team had a separate meeting to discuss what’s needed on the coding side of things. There are a lot of moving parts, and I could tell they’re really excited to get started. They’re breaking down tasks to make sure everything gets done in a reasonable timeframe and is feasible, and I’m curious to see how it’ll all come together.

Yesterday, we all had a group meeting to check in on our progress so far and to discuss the next steps. It felt good to see how much we’ve already accomplished, even if it’s just laying the groundwork. We talked about what’s working, what we need to focus on next, and how we’ll keep communication flowing among us. It’s clear that keeping each other updated and communicating clearly will be key, especially as things start getting busier. If you want to find out more about the specifics of the project and what we will be creating, check out the blog post by Avery Slote, the other project manager I am working closely with for this installation.

I’m excited about where “The Flow Within” is heading. There’s a lot to do, but seeing everyone’s enthusiasm is motivating. I’ll keep sharing updates as we move forward, so stay tuned!
